1. Overview

The Teachers’ Growth Program (TGP) was developed by Edutop as a tailored teacher training initiative to support and enhance the professional development of Kenyan teachers. This program was crafted in response to the evolving educational landscape in Kenya, particularly with the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the need for dynamic, reflective, and student-centred teaching.

This online program brought together aspiring and practicing teachers from Kenya, offering a platform for learning, reflection, collaboration, and skill-building.


2. Objectives of the Program

  • To familiarise teachers with Kenya’s current education system (CBC and the 2–6–3–3 model).

  • To empower teachers with effective teaching strategies and classroom tools.

  • To support teachers in lesson planning, classroom engagement, and differentiated learning.

  • To highlight the importance of warm-ups, play-based learning, and storytelling in pedagogy.

  • To build confidence, creativity, and critical thinking among educators.

  • To encourage continuous learning through assignments and follow-ups.


3. Program Structure

  • Mode: Online (via Zoom)

  • Duration: 45 days  

  • Format: Interactive sessions, group discussions, Q&A, follow-up assignments

  • Support: Reading handouts, feedback loops, WhatsApp group for updates


4. Topics Covered

  1. Understanding the CBC – Shift from 8–4–4, structure, key features

  2. Classroom Management – Managing behaviour, routines, engagement

  3. Multiple Intelligences – Using Howard Gardner’s theory in classrooms

  4. Lesson Planning – SMART objectives, Bloom’s Taxonomy, CBC alignment

  5. Warm-Up Activities – Purpose, types, planning relevant warm-ups

  6. Play-Based Learning – Role of play in early childhood and primary

  7. Circle Time – Building emotional connection, listening skills, classroom bonding

  8. Storytelling as a Teaching Tool – Using stories across subjects for deeper learning

                                             
                                         

5. Assessment & Certification

  • Teachers were assessed through:

    • Attendance

    • Assignment submission

    • Participation in group tasks

    • Reflection writing

  • Certificates of Active Participation were awarded to teachers who engaged actively and completed all tasks.

  • Certificates of Completion were given to those who attended but showed limited engagement.




6. Program Impact

  • Enhanced understanding of CBC and learner-centred teaching
  • Teachers developed confidence in planning and delivering effective lessons
  • Increased awareness of differentiated instruction and inclusive strategies
  • Greater appreciation for soft skills like empathy, creativity, and reflection
  • Teachers began seeing themselves as facilitators, not just content deliverers


7. Feedback Summary

Teachers expressed appreciation for:

  • The clear explanations and practical tools

  • The warm, encouraging training style

  • Exposure to international best practices blended with local needs

  • Flexibility of online learning


8. Follow-Up Plan

  • Continued support via WhatsApp and email

  • Schools can request tailored in-house training

  • Teachers can access additional resources upon request

  • One-on-one consultation available on lesson plans, assessments, curriculum design


9. Conclusion & Acknowledgement

Edutop is honoured to have facilitated the Teachers’ Growth Program in Kenya, contributing to the professional empowerment of educators who shape the next generation.

We thank all participants for their dedication, curiosity, and commitment to becoming better teachers. We also extend gratitude to schools and administrators who supported their teachers in attending this program.

The boy who preferred a knife

We often watch short inspiring stories on social media or read them in  Reader’s Digest  or other good books.   Children Teach Children — A New Model  of Responsibility  and Contribution Last year, for the very first time,  Edutop launched a groundbreaking program called  Children Teach Children  — where children stepped into the role of teachers to help other children learn.
