An Edutop Summer Initiative | May 1st – 31st, 2025



Overview:
The Children Teach Children program was launched as a unique summer initiative by Edutop, aimed at making learning more engaging, meaningful, and peer-driven. Unlike conventional models where children receive help from adults, this program flipped the script—children became teachers to fellow children. The idea, though unconventional, was met with surprising enthusiasm and success.

Program Concept:
The program welcomed all school-going children to participate as either teachers or learners. Each teaching child selected a subject area they were confident in—mainly Literacy (reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary) or Numeracy (core operations, word problems)—and were matched with younger learners based on grade levels.

The goal was to develop confidence, improve clarity of understanding, and nurture leadership skills—while creating a more relatable, age-friendly learning environment.


Highlights:
 ✅ Sessions were conducted online every alternate day at 3 PM
 ✅ Children paid a nominal fee (₹500 for teachers and ₹1000 for learners)
 ✅ Structured guidance was provided to student-teachers
 ✅ Follow-up activities, peer feedback, and parent updates ensured accountability


What Made It Special:
What truly stood out was the response from parents—and the commitment shown by the young teachers. Despite charging a fee even for teaching roles, we had more teachers than learners register, a testimony to how seriously children took the opportunity.

🌟 Star Teachers of the Program:

  • Safoora (Grade 8): Managed two age groups with full responsibility—planned lessons, taught patiently, and followed up with homework. Her maturity and dedication left a strong impression on all of us.

  • Khadija: A student herself, she took on the role of teaching two secondary school boys. Her clarity, confidence, and calm teaching style made her a favourite among learners.


Parent Feedback:
Parents were pleasantly surprised to see how productively their children used their summer break.


What’s Next?
Edutop intends to continue this program beyond the summer. We believe this small start has planted seeds of real change—in how children learn, lead, and live.

The boy who preferred a knife

We often watch short inspiring stories on social media or read them in  Reader’s Digest  or other good books. But I feel truly privileged to have experienced a real-life moment of inspiration—one worth sharing. During my work stay at Tamani School in Zanzibar, one Sunday, my husband and I decided to visit the local market just for the experience.   Children Teach Children — A New Model  of Responsibility  and Contribution Last year, for the very first time,  Edutop launched a groundbreaking program called  Children Teach Children  — where children stepped into the role of teachers to help other children learn. What made this initiative unique was that  the young teachers themselves  paid  to participate. Why would a teacher pay to teach? Because the purpose was deeper than just literacy. It was about  instilling seriousness, responsibility, and commitment  in the child who was taking on the role of a mentor.
